Hot glue is every cosplayer’s saviour. Ask anyone, and I’m sure they’ll tell you hot glue is a must for costume building and last minute fixes! It’s great for many things, which I will discuss here.
· Buy yourself a hot glue gun online or in craft stores. Be sure to buy plenty of hot glue sticks (make sure they are the right size for your glue gun), as you’ll be surprised how many you’ll get through.
· The clue is in the name – it’s a hot glue gun, so be very careful when handling it and the glue itself. Don’t touch the metal nozzle on the end when it is switched on or cooling off. There have been many times when I’ve done that absentmindedly, and regretted it instantly when burning my fingers and skin!
· Put paper or a protective layer down. Often when you’ve put the glue gun down whilst working on your costume piece, the hot glue will continue to drip from the edge of the nozzle and will go everywhere.
· Hot glue can be used for many things, including filling seams in foam pieces, gluing pieces together, and even for details on props and costumes.
Do not, and I repeat, do not ever stick something directly to you with hot glue. Some people do this, and it may seem like a good idea to ensure something doesn’t fall off, but it will hurt and potentially cause permanent damage to you.
