Here are my top five necessary products for cosplay makeup! These are products I can’t go without when I cosplay and go to conventions.
1. Moisturiser: Wearing makeup for a long convention day can dry out your skin. Be sure to moisturise well before you apply it.
2. Foundation: This allows for you to create a smooth base on your face for your makeup. It evens out your skin tone and looks good in photos.
3. Contour: Either this is a special contour product or eyeshadow. This means you can create a more chiselled masculine makeup look, or a more defined look to your face no matter your character’s gender.
4. Brows: You may not think it, but eyebrows are important in cosplay makeup. Always have a product you can use to shade and colour your eyebrows. Your natural eyebrows may be brown, but if your character has green hair and eyebrows, of course they aren’t going to match! So, make sure you can shade and colour your eyebrows with something (I use eyeshadow).
5. Setting powder/spray: Imaging being at a convention for 8 hours in the middle of July in a costume with five layers, and watching as you end up sweating your makeup off. That sounds disastrous right? Setting power/spray will save you! I can’t live without my setting spray before a convention – it really works wonders.
