“The name is Sherlock Holmes, and the address is 221B Baker Street.” – BBC Sherlock
Planning to cosplay everybody’s favourite Consulting Detective? Check out my makeup tutorial below for instructions on how I transform into Cumberbatch’s Holmes.
1. Start by moisturising and priming your face as usual.
2. Use concealer to cover any blemishes. Don’t use it under your eyes to hide any darkness/bags. Apply foundation as usual to smooth out your skin tone and provide a base for the rest of your makeup.
3. Using contour products or brown eyeshadow (which is what I use), contour and carve out your cheekbones. Make sure they appear high on your face with a sharp angle. Benedict Cumberbatch is known for his sharp cheekbones, so you have to work hard to match them!
4. Contour your temples and your nose to make it longer and thinner. Use it to make your jawline sharper, on the curve of your chin to make it more prominent, and on the groove below your nose. Also apply it lightly under your eyes. Make sure to blend all of these with a brush or sponge.
5. Use a thin angled brush to apply the same contour product to the grooves in your cheeks. Scrunch your forehead up and apply it into the creases and blend them out. Do the same with the bridge of your nose to give your face the wrinkles and creases of the super sleuth.
6. Fill your eyebrows in thick, with dark brown eyeshadow. Be sure to bring them in a little closer to the bridge of the nose.
7. Using a nude lip liner, draw a sharp cupid’s bow on your top lip. Fill in the gap with a thin lip brush using concealer and foundation. Then using the lip liner again, line your bottom lip a little smaller. Use concealer and foundation on the outside of your bottom lip so that it looks thinner. Fill in your lips with the same nude lip liner.
8. Put on your wig and costume, and you’re ready to hit the streets of London!
